1313 Mocking Bird Lane
Paul Roland

2019 – UP004
1313 Mocking Bird Lane is the 20th album from Paul Roland, hailed by Record Collector as a “psych-pop genius” and recently featured in a 7-page Shindig! magazine spread titled Return of the King. Since his 1980 debut The Werewolf of London (a John Peel favourite and Bat Cave staple), Roland has crafted a cult discography, including A Cabinet of Curiosities — called “one of the best albums you’ve probably never heard” by Rolling Stone — and concept albums like Reanimator and Bates Motel, the latter written for surviving members of the Velvet Underground.
Often compared to Robyn Hitchcock and even dubbed “the male Kate Bush,” Roland is known for his gothic, baroque psych-pop, macabre lyrics, and eccentric Victorian themes, earning him the title “Godfather of Steampunk.”
1313 blends dreamy psych (Salon of the Senses), quirky ‘60s pop (My Next Life, Little White Lies), and gothic whimsy on the title track — a tribute to The Munsters’ iconic hearse.
